The campsite is nestled in an area of mixed open space and forest on the south bank of the River Thet.There are attractive walks along the river bank and through the forest, with a chance of seeing some of the forests abundant wildlife.
Birds: General woodland birds.
Insects and reptiles: Some of the chalky rides to the southeast hold a small population of the nationally declining butterfly Grizzled skipper. White admiral butterfly has been found in the damper areas where there is honeysuckle growing. Great crested newts and other amphibians can be found in the damp hollows and ponds. Habitats: The area shows a nice gradation from dry Breckland habitats to river valley fen in the north. The fen has been partly cleared of poplar and is being grazed by cattle. There are some good wide rides with a range of flora. The woodland is particularly good for fungi. Please observe the Code of Conduct regarding collection. There is some good aquatic flora around some of the wet hollows and ponds.
How to get there: From Thetford take the A1066 towards Diss. Just after Brettenham village, turn left off the main road signposted Bridgham and campsite. Thorpe Woodlands is approximately one and a half miles along this road on the left hand side.
