Kings picnic site is in the heart of Kings Forest, on the outskirts of Thetford Forest Park.
Mammals: The King's Forest is a good place to watch for Roe and Muntjac deer, Fallow deer can also be seen. We have information about Roe deer and Fallow deer
Birds: Woodlark and Nightjar occur on most of the clear felled areas. The scrub areas are good for breeding summer migrants. Crossbill and siskin can be found in the older pines. Hobby are regularly recorded hunting over the area. We have information about Nightjar and Woodlark
Insects and reptiles: Some of the rides with Birds-foot trefoil have populations of the rapidly declining butterfly species - Dingy Skipper. This species is on the wing early, adults flying in May. Habitats: Kings Forest is a mix of conifer and broadleaf woodland with some wide, chalky, flower rich rides.
How to get there: From Brandon, take the B1106 towards Bury St Edmunds. Go straight over the cross roads at Elvedon. Kings picnic site is approximately one mile along this road on the left hand side.
