COMMON LIZARDS IN THE NEW FOREST REPTILLIARYDeep in the forest, along the forest drive, High Lodge provides a glimpse of what the park has to offer.

Mammals: Numbers of Red Squirrels continue to decline as Grey Squirrels outnumber them. A good range of bats have been recorded in the area and there is an active bat box programme. Deer are a common site at times when less people are about especially Muntjac, Roe and Red. We have information about Red deer and Roe deer

Birds: Woodlark and Nightjar occur on most of the recent clearfelled areas. Crossbill and Siskin are regularly in appearance and Firecrest can be found by the patient. The variety of woodland habitats provide a good range of woodland birds in the immediate vicinity of the Centre. A quiet sit by the pond can be rewarding in hot weather. We have information about Nightjar and Woodlark

Insects and reptiles: The area is extremely good for reptiles with Adder and common lizard being locally common. The wetter areas have Common toads and Great Crested Newts. We have information about Adder

Habitats: Wide range of broadleaf and pine woodlands and scrub. We have information about Pinewood

How to get there:
The forest drive and entrance is located on the B1107 Thetford to Brandon Road, approximately 4 miles from Thetford and half a mile from Brandon. Follow the Forest Road for about 1½ miles and you will enter the car parking area. A forest access charge applies. (Post code IP27 0AF)
