 High Ash is the site of a former Army camp and it has one waymarked walk along which walkers can observe a variety of wildlife.
Birds: Woodlark and Nightjar occur on most of the clear felled areas.The scrub areas are good for breeding summer migrants. Crossbill and Siskin can be found in the older pines. We have information about Nightjar and Woodlark
Habitats: On the east side of the A1065 are a number of flower rich rides that include nationally rare plant Tower mustard.
How to get there:
Follow the A1065 Brandon to Swaffham road. Approximately two miles outside the village of Mundford, turn left into High Ash.

Desert Rats Memorial Walk (2miles). A shorter (0.5mile) easy access trail has interpretation boards explaing the story of The Desert Rats during their stay in Thetford Forest in 1944. A Guide map showing 26 trails around the forest is available for £1 from High Lodge Forest Centre or from the Forest Office (Office hours only). |
