Thetford Forest Park

Thetford Forest is a patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves providing the ideal setting for a day out, and a welcome refuge for a rich variety of animal and plant life.
Many of our visitors are attracted by the peace and tranquility of Thetford Forest as well as the wide range of recreation facilities. High Lodge is the venue where children can explore trails, use the play furniture and have fun on the large grass area. Refreshments are also available in our oak framed building. There is something for everyone somewhere in the forest and the quieter sites provide a haven for wildlife - why not take a walk at Lynford in our Arboretum or around the lake?

How to get there:

Thetford and Brandon are the nearest towns or villages.

Thetford Forest Park is located on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk in the heart of Breckland in East Anglia. Major roads leading to Thetford Forest Park are the M11 from London, the A11 from Norwich or Newmarket and the A14 from Cambridge or Ipswich.

horse riding

A policy of Open Access exists in Thetford Forest for horse riders, as a consequence there are very few waymarked trails. Ordnance Survey map Explorer 229 shows the area owned by the Forestry Commission and open to the public for horse riding. We recommend that the areas north of the railway line are the most suitable as this is away from the the main concentation of visitors using High Lodge and the cycle trails. All forest users must heed notices in the forest especially those referring to 'Forest Operations'. For CARRIAGE DRIVERS we recommend parking and deboxing along the Lime Tree Avenue or at the Forest Offices, both at Santon Downham.
