Woodland Workshops

Soak up the sylvan atmosphere in a spectacular ancient woodland site whilst learning traditional rural crafts.
The Friends of Chopwell Wood is hosting two days of hands on woodcraft workshops. A new event, Woodland Workshops, is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has ever fancied having a go at green woodworking.
Five local experts will be on hand to lead a variety of workshops. Lasting for a full day each workshop will give participants plenty of time to learn a sound introduction to that craft and to make something to take home with them. Each group will only have between 6 and 10 participants in order to allow close and effective tuition.
Workshops – the following take place on both the Saturday and Sunday:
Bowl Carving – Maurice Pyle.
Create your own wooden bowl using hand tools
Willow baskets – Phil Bradley.
Weave willow to make a stunning basket.
Willow Garden structures – Ruth Thompson.
Use willow to make wigwams, hurdles or living structures
Pole Lathe –Bill Oakes.
Traditional woodturning and construction of hammers, mallets or mauls.
Pole Lathe – Chris Helliwell.
Wood turning with an emphasis on making goblets
Please note that this event will be held outdoors. Minimal shelter may be available for some workshops but please note that sessions will mostly not be undercover.
As this is England, it will be September and you will be learning outdoor crafts then please be prepared for a little dampness.
