Exercise and calories
Exercise can be broken down into two main categories - aerobic and anaerobic.
Aerobic exercise is most commonly thought of as an instructor-led class in a gym or hall, but walking (briskly), cycling and running are all forms of aerobic exercise. Anaerobic exercise involves short bursts of exertion followed by periods of rest and is most commonly associated with weightlifting. For all of these types of exercise, we need to burn energy to work the muscles, and that's when we start to use up calories. Obviously the harder you exercise, the more calories you will burn, but a brisk walk will burn more calories than the equivalent time on a badminton court. Burn those calories!| activity for 30 minutes | calories burned | | brisk walking | 210 | | cycling | 330 | | exercise in an adventure playground | 250 | | running | 320 | But the benefits do not stop there. Walking is perhaps the easiest and most enjoyable way to get fit. Walking can help you lose weight, reduce the risk of heart attacks and some cancers, help prevent osteoporosis and much more.
