Rt Hon Lord Clark of Windermere

Lord Clark of WindermereLord (David) Clark hails from Cumbria and began his working life as a forest worker.  Later he gained a BA(Econ), MSc and PhD becoming a university lecturer.  He serves as a non-executive director of Thales (UK) plc, the defence electronics company, Engage Mutual Assurance Ltd and Sellafield Ltd.  In addition he is a director of Carlisle United Football Club.  In 2005 he resigned from NATO-Parliamentary Assembly after 20 years’ membership including the last five as Head of the UK Delegation.

Lord Clark has had a distinguished career in Parliament. Following his retirement from the House of Commons, to which he was first elected in 1970, Lord Clark took his seat in the House of Lords in July 2001.

He was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Civil Service in
Tony Blair's first Cabinet in 1997. In this capacity, he had responsibility for the administration of Her Majesty's estates in the North of England. For 11 years previously he sat on the shadow Cabinet with responsibility at times for Environment Protection, Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs, and Defence.

For almost 30 years he was active in the All-Party Forestry Group and eventually became Chairman.
