Native Woodland Development in the North York Moors and Howardian Hills

In 2002, the Forestry Commission in partnership with the North York Moors National Park, the Howardian Hills AONB, English Nature and the Royal Forestry Society commissioned eminent woodland ecologist, George Peterken to review options for expanding and strengthening the region's native woodland resource. The review and its recommendations are now complete. Rather than looking at individual woods in isolation the review takes a landscape scale approach to native woodland restoration through the use of forest habitat networks. The document provides a clear steer to groups working to improve native woodlands in the area.
