Dog Walking

Dogs are certainly welcome at Haldon Forest Park – what better way for you and your dog to get some exercise?

We have a Canine Corner notice board at the entrance to the main gateway car park, which is updated with news of events and other information for dog owners.A woman walks her dog through the forest.

Past and future events include:

Future events will be advertised here on the website, and on the Canine Corner notice board.

The Forestry Commission is now running Walkies in the Woods events to support the Active Woods campaign, focusing on the physical and mental health benefits of dog walking.

Here at Haldon Forest Park we have a few simple requests for all dog owners:

  • Please keep your dog on a lead in the car parks, the main visitor hub (next to the main car park), and at road crossings. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted inside the grazing enclosure along the Adventure Cycle Trail.
  • Please keep your dog out of the designated children’s play areas, such as the sand pit and the climbing area.
  • Please use the dog waste bins to dispose of your dog’s poop. These are located in the main car park, on the road leading to the Forestry Commission Office, in the Mamhead car park, and at the entrance to the Mamhead Sensory Trail.
  • Where possible use the short dog trails at the start of your walk, so that your dog can relieve itself away from the main trails used by wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are dog trails leading from both car parks, and from the entrance to the Mamhead Sensory Trail.
  • Please be aware that March to July is deer breeding season. Please keep your dog under close control or on a lead during this time, to avoid unnecessary distress or injury to pregnant or new-born deer.
